ABS To Address 4K Technology Questions During Free Open House

(Seatac, Washington--June 25, 2014) Professional video and audio systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) today announced a free 4K Open House at its offices in SeaTac on July 17, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a number of vendors at the event, including Adobe, AJA Video Systems, Elemental Technologies, Four Winds Interactive, FUJINON, Infortrend, Quantum, Planar and Sony. Lunch will be provided for registered attendees. 4K and other large raster acquisition formats offer improved resolution and high dynamic range (HDR) that rival film, enough to already convince many episodic television producers to replace 35mm film with video. Plus, 4K or ultra-high definition (UHD) displays are also being considered for a variety of applications, including I-MAG (image magnification), live events and high-end retail. However, a number of questions remain regarding production, post-production and distribution workflows.

(Emeryville, California--June 25, 2014) DiaQuest Products, a software development firm with a focus on the video and film industries, today announced its ProductionLink for Adobe® Premiere Pro and ProductionLink for Adobe After Effects plug-ins are compatible with Adobe Creative Cloud® 2014 and are available through a new Adobe Marketplace Web site, The new site supports 14 different Adobe applications. Previously, Adobe only provided access to ProductionLink through the Adobe Exchange Panel within Adobe products. Now, through the add-ons section of the site, five ProductionLink options can be purchased from DiaQuest: ProductionLink for Adobe Premiere Pro, which works with Windows and Mac platforms; ProductionLink for Adobe After Effects (separate versions for Windows and Mac); ProductionLink for Adobe Bundle, which includes one seat license for Premiere Pro and After Effects; and ProductionLink for Adobe Bundle with four seat licenses for both programs.

(Nasdaq: ADSK) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Shotgun Software, a developer of scalable, cloud-based production tracking, review and asset management software for the film, television and games industries. Shotgun's tools for production management are used by some of the world's leading production studios and are tightly integrated with many of the most widely used tools in the industry including Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya software. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. “Shotgun and Autodesk share a vision of an industry-wide, cloud-based production management system," said Don Parker, Shotgun co-founder and chief executive officer. “Autodesk’s broad global network and development resources will speed up the pace of innovation and development of our global platform. Together, we will extend our tools deeper into the production process, and develop new solutions that best support the studios of the future.”
aQ Broadcast Provides Centralised Video Solution for 3M Campus

(Reading, United Kingdom--June 25, 2014) 3M’s sprawling headquarters in Minnesota’s Twin Cities hosts the company’s central engineering, sales and marketing activity. As such, there is a lot of video moving in a lot of different directions: at any point during the day at least one of the campus’s 18, fibre-connected venues is in use, whether for a new product rollout, presentation of new branding, or the latest accounting numbers. In fact, in the last year these venues have hosted about 900 individual events. Neal Thomas, Chief Engineer at 3M Media Solutions, has to manage the content that plays to, is recorded from, or is distributed between, all of these locations. 3M Media Solutions recently charged aQ Broadcast with improving the way this video content and activity is managed. Previously, the machine racks were full of standalone, portable media player/recorders, each with its own local storage. While machine control of all these devices was centralised, the storage for the actual content was not. Instead, these files had to be pulled manually from each of the units via removable hard drives and then copied to local network drives for distribution. “We never really intended for things to work that way,” said Thomas. “But the system sort of grew, over time, out of necessity. Before we knew it, we had a stack of these player/recorders, and we were getting a lot of exercise running around with the portable flash drives that live on those units.”
